GEMA POLİMER has been shaping R&D activities in the plastic industry in line with the increasing global trends towards high performance, sustainable and environmentally friendly plastic products in recent years. GEMA continues R&D studies, that it started with its own resources in 2014, with state-supported projects such as TÜBİTAK and KOSGEB. The R&D team consisting of engineers and chemists with bachleor, post graduates and PhD graduated are employed in the 500 m2 R&D laboratory equipped with high technology in its facility located in İzmir Aegean Free Zone. The R&D team takes part in the entire process, starting with literature and market research, laboratory-scale prototype development, testing, analysis, and then industrial-scale production and commercialization of the new product.

The GEMA POLİMER's R&D Laboratory iclude laboratory-type twin screw extruder, blown&cast film machine and injection machine to be used in prototype product trials, as well as state-of-the-art devices used in plastic material characterization and conformity tests such as FTIR, DSC, HDT, tensile, impact, density, MFI, etc.

The focus of R&D activities is the development of compostable, biodegradable and bio-based bioplastic compound raw materials and sustainable and environmentally friendly materials as an alternative to synthetic plastics. The development of high-performance plastic products with improved functional properties such as strength, resistance, non-flammability, heat resistance, electrical conductivity etc. are among other R&D activities.
